Inuwa Waya, Managing Director NNPC Trading Bags FIN Oil & Gas Outstanding Personality Award

Mr. Inuwa Waya, the Managing director of NNPC Trading was on Monday, 28th January 2019 at the Petroleum Industry Award Night honored with the Foreign Investment Network (FIN) Oil & Gas Outstanding Personality in recognition of his contributions to the oil & gas industry across the globe.

Foreign Investment Network (FIN), a United Kingdom based company established out of necessity to meet the investment need of promoting emerging economies in Africa. The Petroleum Industry Award is an arm of the Foreign Investment Network whose main function is to recognize the outstanding achievements made within the Upstream, Midstream and Downstream sectors of the Oil & Gas Industry; rewarding success and commitment to health & safety, environmental stewardship, excellence and corporate social responsibility.

This year’s Petroleum Industry Award Gala dinner, which was sponsored by Total, took place on Monday 28th January 2019 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja as part of the side event lined up for the 2019 Nigerian International Petroleum Summit (NIPS).

Waya holds an LLB from the Ahmadu Bello University, an LLM (Petroleum Law, Policy and Economics) from the University of Dundee and a Post Graduate Diploma (Management of the International Energy Industry) from the College of Petroleum Studies, Oxford, England.

He started his career in NNPC in 1996 as a Legal Officer, after which he worked in different capacities in the corporation. Such capacities include: Legal Officer;Law Research Unit of the Legal Department, Legal Officer: Litigation and Property Law Department, Senior Legal Officer: Corporate Law Department, Technical Assistant to the Group General Manager; Legal Division, Company Secretary/Legal Adviser; HYSON Nigeria Limited (NNPC/VITOL Joint Venture Company), Acting Executive Director; Services (HYSON), Vice President (Services); CALSON Bermuda Limited, Non-Executive Director (HYSON) – NNPC Representative in the Board of Directors of HYSON/CALSON, Technical Assistant to the Group Managing DirectorNNPC (He served as Technical Assistant to 3 Group Managing Directors of NNPC), General Manager; Tenders, Contracts Administration & Petroleum Upstream Department (TCAPUD), Acting Secretary to the Corporation/Legal Adviser and Managing Director; HYSON Nigeria Limited and President CALSON Bermuda Limited.

His Major Areas of Experience at the NNPC are: The LPG Butanazation Project, Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) Agreement of domestic refineries, Atlas Cove Optimization Project, West African Gas Pipeline Project, Agreement for the construction of NNPC Head Office and Housing Complex in Abuja, NNPC Assets Valuation Committee and NNPC Corporate Assets Boarding and Disposal Works.

His Current assignments Include: Transforming the operations of NNPC Products and Crude Oil Trading Company in particular ensuring flexibility by actively participating in the imports and exports of Crude Oil and Petroleum Products. NNPC Trading under the under the leadership of Mr Waya is actively involved in massive trading activity by ensuring interrupted supply of petroleum products in the Nigeria markets. Mr. Waya also ensures that these activities are done simultaneously with the consolidation of NNPC Joint Venture trading companies into one single formidable trading company doing business under the name of Duke Oil Incorporated Duke Oil under Mr. Waya’s stewardship has gone through a major turnaround. The Company is up to date in terms of Audited financial Statements and payments of Taxes. The turnover has considerably increased over the years and  Dividend are paid to the shareholders ( NNPC), as at when due. In order to capture the emerging market in Asia and Middle East and in line with mandate given to it by NNPC, Duke Oil has opened an office in Dubai – United Arab Emirate (UAE).

The Award was presented to the Mr. Waya by the Chief Executive Officer of the Foreign Investment Network, Mr. Michael Dragoyevich. Mr. Waya was awarded alongside 20 individuals and Organizations across the globe such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote (FIN OIL & GAS African ICON), His Excellency Abubakar Atiku Bagudu Governor of Kebbi state (FIN OUTSTANDING VISIONARY LEADERSHIP AWARD), H.E Gabriel Obiang Lima, Minister of Mines & Energy, Equatorial Guinea (FIN OUTSTANDING MINISTER OF HYDROCARBON).

Some pasts recipients of the FIN Petroleum Industry Award are Mr. Vincent’s Fox (Former President of Mexico), Dr. Rilwanu Lukman (Former OPEC Secretary General), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala (Former World Bank Managing Director) etc.

The Award ceremony was attended by African leaders, international and local players in the Oil and gas sector from across the globe, captains of industry, international investors and members of the diplomatic community.
